A Precision Air plane from Tanzania is said to have crash-landed into Lake Victoria.

According to Tanzania Broadcasting Corporation (TBC), the passenger plane left Dar es Salaam on Sunday morning, en route to Bukoba via Mwanza.

The crash according to TBC was caused by heavy rain and strong winds as it attempted to land at Bukoba airport.

Rescue operations were still going on, according to TBC, which noted that it had spoken to its correspondent Charles Mwebeya, who is reporting live from the location.

Precision Air confirmed the plane crash.

“Precision Air flight no. 494, flying from Dar es Salaam to Bukoba, was involved in an accident as it was approaching Bukoba Airport,” reads the statement.
