DAR ES SALAAM – In a dramatic display of public power, Tanzanian superstar Diamond Platnumz has bowed to an overwhelming wave of online criticism and deleted all Instagram posts publicly endorsing President Samia Suluhu Hassan. The move came after furious fans and citizens flooded his comment section with bitter criticism and threats, forcing one of Africa’s biggest artists to retract his political stance.

The controversy erupted on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, as Tanzania’s general elections commenced. Diamond Platnumz, whose real name is Naseeb Abdul Juma, shared a lengthy, glowing tribute to President Samia Suluhu Hassan, hailing her as a “wise, hard-working, and peace-loving leader.”

A Tribute Meets a Firestorm

In the now-deleted post, written in Swahili, Diamond praised the President’s work in education, health, agriculture, fisheries, and infrastructure. He referred to her as “Mama yangu” (my mother) and described her as “Muungwana” (a virtuous/good person).

However, instead of garnering support, the post acted as a lightning rod for public discontent. Tanzanians, who have recently taken to social media to voice concerns over the administration’s growing intolerance of opposition voices, immediately camped in the comment section.

The backlash was fueled by a tense election day, which was reportedly marred by protests and calls for a boycott from groups labeling the process unfair.

Fans Accuse Star of Betrayal

The comment section quickly turned into a forum for public outrage. Followers accused Diamond of being “tone-deaf” and choosing “the side of power instead of the people.” Many claimed he was using his immense influence to sanitize poor governance and betray the struggles of ordinary Tanzanians.

The criticism escalated beyond words, with some users threatening to boycott his music and even target his Wasafi Studios if he did not withdraw his support for the President.

A Swift Capitulation

Faced with this mounting and intense pressure, Diamond Platnumz took action by Thursday night, October 30. All posts, photos, and videos related to the presidential endorsement were scrubbed from his official Instagram page.

The deletion left little doubt that the celebrated Bongo Flava artist had capitulated to the public storm, highlighting the potent influence of collective social media action and the volatile political climate in Tanzania as the nation votes.
