Tanzania has lifted the ban on Kenya Airways, allowing it to resume flights between Nairobi and Dar es Salaam.
This decision follows Tanzania’s announcement of a flight ban on Kenya Airways in response to Nairobi’s denial of Air Tanzania’s request for cargo flights between the two countries.
In a statement on Tuesday, Tanzania said that request had now been granted.
“Following this development, the aeronautical authorities of the United Republic of Tanzania hereby withdraw its decision of 15 January 2024 and therefore approval for Kenya Airways to operate… between Nairobi and Dar es Salaam, is hereby restored,” state-run Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority said in a statement.
Since 2016, Tanzania has made significant investments to revive its national airline by increasing its fleet, expanding routes, and enhancing operations to capture local and regional markets.
Kenya Airways, a major African airline, considers Tanzania, with its popular attractions such as mountains and extensive wildlife reserves attracting over a million tourists annually, as one of its key markets.
