Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor, John Barorot, has officially stepped down from his position, effective immediately. The announcement was made during a meeting with senior county staff at the Eka Hotel in Eldoret, where Governor Jonathan Bii was also present.

In a press conference held on Monday, Governor Bii confirmed Barorot’s resignation, explaining that he has accepted a new role as Chief Executive Officer at an international ICT firm. Barorot is set to begin his new position on September 1, 2024.

“Today we announce the exit of our deputy governor Engineer John Barorot who has secured a position as a Chief Executive Officer of an international organization in the ICT sector. His last day of work will be August 31, 2024,” Governor Bii stated.

During his farewell speech, Barorot dispelled rumors of any discord with Governor Bii, emphasizing that his decision to resign was motivated by a desire to pursue new opportunities in the private sector.

“The governor is my friend and we have worked very well and discussed my exit in the last month,” said Barorot.

Governor Bii commended Barorot for his dedicated service to Uasin Gishu County and expressed confidence that his new role would bring further benefits to the region. Bii remarked that Barorot’s appointment as CEO is a significant achievement for the county.

Barorot’s resignation comes just a week after he publicly denied rumors of his departure. Speculation about his exit had grown when he was conspicuously absent from President William Ruto’s event last Thursday, during which Eldoret was granted city status.

The resignation coincides with a pivotal time for Uasin Gishu County as it adjusts to its new responsibilities following Eldoret’s elevation to city status.

The county government is now focused on navigating the challenges and opportunities that come with this new chapter in its development.
