Turkana Central MP Joseph Namuar was compelled to cut his speech short after struggling to capture the attention of residents.

Namuar attempted to explain his decision to vote in favor of the Finance Bill 2024, a move that seemingly did not sit well with the audience.

He was joined by Turkana Governor Lomorukai in Lodwar, where they both encouraged residents to avoid protests that could disrupt local business activities.

The situation took a turn for the worse when Governor Lomorukai invited MP Namuar to speak. As Namuar began his address, the crowd started chanting “Simba,” which led him to halt his speech prematurely.

“I thank you for electing me as your leader. I promised to ensure there’s peaceful coexistence at Lodwar town to create a conducive environment for business activities,” he said.

However, the crowd’s unrest persisted, especially when he relayed greetings from President William Ruto.

Despite Namuar’s pleas for a moment of silence, the residents continued to talk over him. Governor Lomorukai stepped in to calm the agitated crowd, but the residents refused to let Namuar continue his speech.

The Finance Bill 2024 is causing significant public uproar and demonstrations owing to its suggested tax policies.

The protests have drawn a diverse array of participants, primarily from Generation Z, and have extended across the country, resulting in police involvement.
