Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah has harshly criticized Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Coalition Principal Raila Odinga for aligning with President William Ruto’s government, calling it “political prostitution.”
In a viral video, Omtatah condemned Odinga’s move, stating, “This kind of greed, and political prostitution are not acceptable. You can do prostitution with the old order, but I think the new order, which is exposed, cannot allow political prostitutes,” He further accused Odinga of succumbing to political temptations, declaring, And unfortunately, Baba has turned out to be a political prostitute, who cannot resist the temptation to go into bed with any offer. That is thereby an illegitimate government.”
This critique follows a Daily Nation report highlighting Odinga’s newfound alliance with Ruto amid political turmoil within the Kenya Kwanza administration.
Despite previously labeling Ruto’s government as illegitimate, Odinga has now become one of Ruto’s closest allies, with reports of their regular meetings to discuss national stability and a potential “broad-based government.”
Odinga defended Ruto at an ODM Parliamentary Group Meeting, arguing against calls for Ruto’s resignation. He stated, “Ruto must go’ cannot be an end,” emphasizing the need for national dialogue to save Kenya, not Ruto.
Despite defending his actions, Odinga denied holding private meetings with Ruto at State House, Nairobi, to avoid political fallout before a formal cooperation pact.
He clarified that his recent interactions with the President were held in public venues.
Omtatah, however, remains unconvinced, asserting that Odinga’s actions are self-serving and criticizing his failure to demand justice for those affected by past protests. “Raila is just angling for his own stomach,” Omtatah said, dismissing Odinga’s claims of working for the country’s benefit.
