Police in Nyandarua are investigating an incident in which suspected robbers broke into a mortuary and took a corpse.
According to a police report, the robbers later stored the body in a septic pit a few meters away from the mortuary to ensure it was not discovered.
“The body of a juvenile identified as George Chege, 10 was stolen from the JM Kariuki Hospital morgue in Nyandarua where it was preserved,” the report indicated.
On Wednesday, December 7, an attendant informed police that he had discovered a break in at the facility.
The attendant was on his way to work around 8 a.m. when he noticed the main door was broken.
He called the cops, who arrived and discovered that a corpse had been stolen.
The said body was located after a search outside the mortuary in a septic pit.
Police found the body and returned it to the mortuary intact.
The motive of the incident was not immediately established.
