Manchester United is advised to terminate the contract of Erik ten Hag for the benefit of the club, and three significant shortcomings in the Dutchman’s managerial approach have been highlighted.
On Saturday, Bournemouth convincingly defeated Manchester United by scoring three goals without a response, exposing the inadequacies of the Red Devils. This loss marked United’s eleventh defeat in 23 matches across various competitions this season.
Significant transformations are on the horizon with Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s imminent acquisition of a 25 percent stake in the club. The British billionaire is set to bring about changes in the club’s structure and operations.
CEO Richard Arnold has resigned, and there are concerns about the vulnerability of the director of football, John Murtough.
The Independent has reported that Raphael Varane, Casemiro, and Jadon Sancho may leave in January if suitable offers are made.
Many Manchester United fans are uncertain about whether Erik ten Hag will be part of the new leadership under Ratcliffe.
Despite Ratcliffe initially acquiring a 25 percent stake, he will eventually have full control over all sporting matters at United.
While Ten Hag is not immediately at risk of dismissal when Ratcliffe assumes control, former footballer Danny Murphy believes Ten Hag is not the right person for the position and insists that United must sever ties with him to seriously compete in English football.
Murphy identified three significant factors to clarify why he chose them – Ten Hag’s uninspiring recruitment, his incapacity to inspire the players, and his tactical acumen.
“If United want to dine at English football’s top table again, Ten Hag is not the manager to take them there,” wrote Murphy.
“United just cannot compete with City, Liverpool and Arsenal with the players they have under Ten Hag.
“I don’t see a team that’s progressing after a good first season. I see one that’s regressing and I don’t see how that will change with Ten Hag in charge.
“It’s not all Ten Hag’s fault, of course. Many of the problems at United lie above and beyond him. Some of the players also need to look themselves in the mirror.
“However, Ten Hag has been hugely influential in recruitment at United and none of the signings can yet be deemed a success. Some of the players seem to lack motivation too, which is on him, and he needs to be tactically better.”
However, Murphy strongly believes that Ten Hag is not the right person to guide United to glory. Nonetheless, he emphasized the importance of the Red Devils creating a well-thought-out succession plan before removing the Dutchman.
