President William Ruto announced on Tuesday that starting in January, travelers coming to Kenya from various parts of the globe will no longer need a visa.
Ruto explained that his administration has created a digital platform to facilitate the issuance of electronic travel authorizations for all visitors, eliminating the need for visa applications.
“It shall no longer be necessary for any person from any corner of the globe to carry the burden of applying for a visa to come to Kenya,” he said in a speech in the capital Nairobi at an event to mark 60 years of independence from Britain.
Ruto has consistently supported the idea of unrestricted travel across Africa without the need for visas.
During a conference in the Republic of Congo in October, he announced that by the close of 2023, individuals from African nations would be able to visit Kenya without a visa.
Kenya’s economy heavily depends on the tourism sector, which provides essential contributions through beach vacations along the Indian Ocean and wildlife safaris in the interior.
