In a tragic announcement, the Ugandan football community is mourning the death of Darius Mugoye, who was the 2nd Vice President of the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA).

Mugoye passed away on Tuesday morning at Mengo Hospital, as confirmed by FUFA.

He was renowned for his unwavering dedication and valuable contributions to FUFA and the wider world of football.

He also served the sport during Dr. Lawrence Mulindwa’s tenure.

FUFA has indicated that information regarding Mugoye’s funeral arrangements will be made available shortly.

This year, Mugoye played a pivotal role in East Africa winning the AFCON 2027 hosting bid. He had been previously selected by the Federation to be part of an eight-man committee overseeing the Pamoja bid.

Mugoye also acted as the owner of St. Mary’s New Hope FC, a lower division team affiliated with St. Mary’s SS in Nabweru, where he served as the Director.

The untimely loss of Mr. Darius Mugoye represents a significant setback for the FUFA community and beyond, leaving them deeply saddened.

Mourning the loss, Rtd AIGP, Asan Kasingye says, “It’s a dark cloud following the demise of FUFA VP Darius Mugoye. We have lost a man who has contributed immensely to the development of football in Uganda. My condolences go to the football fraternity.”

His dedication and enthusiasm for the advancement of soccer in Uganda will always be held in high regard and treasured.

The Speaker of Parliament Anita Among, also took to X and expressed that she was deeply saddened by the news of the demise of their brother Mugoye.

We are deeply saddened by the news of the demise of our brother Mr. Darius Mugoye, the @OfficialFUFA 2nd Vice President. Darius was a very reliable, dependable, committed and trustworthy friend who we shall dearly miss! He made tremendous contributions to the sports and education sectors and leaves a huge gap. My sympathies go to his family, friends, his @OfficialFUFA family, and the sports fraternity. May his soul rest in eternal peace.” she wrote.
