An Irish culinary expert, Alan Fisher, who resides in Japan, recently achieved two Guinness World Records for the lengthiest cooking marathon by a single person dethroning Hilda Baci.
This announcement was made by the Guinness World Records organization on Tuesday through their website.
Fisher managed to cook non-stop for an impressive 119 hours and 57 minutes, surpassing the prior record of 93 hours and 11 minutes held by Nigerian chef Hilda Baci earlier this year.
The Irish individual also asserted the title for the lengthiest baking marathon by baking continuously for 47 hours and 21 minutes, surpassing the previous record of 31 hours and 16 minutes.
In an impressive display of determination, Fisher consecutively attempted to break both records, devoting more than 160 uninterrupted hours in the kitchen.
These extraordinary accomplishments were accomplished at Kyojin Stewhouse, Fisher’s restaurant in Tokyo, known for its traditional Irish cuisine.
The chef embraced this challenge as a means of recovering from the severe setbacks inflicted by the pandemic, which had nearly forced his business to close its doors.
In his pursuit of these records, Fisher meticulously prepared an extensive amount of food, including over 550 kilograms and a staggering 3,360 servings of 32 distinct Irish recipes.
Throughout this arduous journey, Fisher credited the unwavering support of his local community as the driving force that sustained him, even when faced with fatigue and hallucinations.
“I was representing myself, my family, and Irish food, and sharing our story. I couldn’t give up. That was the only option,” he stated. Guinness praised Fisher’s “incredible feat of endurance.”
