Fans are rallying for Sven-Goran Eriksson’s dream of managing Liverpool to come true.
Supporters are urging the club to let the 75-year-old, who recently disclosed his terminal cancer diagnosis, manage a Liverpool Legends home game against Ajax Legends in March.
Eriksson, a lifelong Reds fan, expressed his long-standing desire to manage Liverpool.
“My father is still alive and is still a Liverpool supporter, and I’m a Liverpool supporter as well, I’ve always been,” Eriksson told Sky News.
“So I always wished to be the manager of Liverpool, and that will not happen for sure, but I’m still a Liverpool fan.”
Following the news, Liverpool supporters mobilized on social media to advocate for the appointment, with ex-Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler expressing on X that there were incoming calls.
Eriksson, when questioned about accepting the role, stated on Good Morning Britain, “I would certainly accept; it’s been my lifelong dream.”
“There would be a lot of good football players, That’s always been my dream but I’m not complaining. I had a lot of good football teams, national teams and the clubs so I’m happy anyhow.”
Liverpool FC Legends will face AFC Ajax Legends in a charity match at Anfield on March 23.
Dan Clubbe from The Redmen TV highlighted on BBC Radio Merseyside that the effort to fulfill Eriksson’s wish demonstrates the ability of football fans to unite during challenging times, emphasizing how supporters often collaborate to make dreams a reality.
“The legends days are brilliant days they make a lot of money for good causes. I’d absolutely love to see it happen.”
All proceeds from the event will go towards supporting the activities of the LFC Foundation and its charitable partners.
