A 43-year-old Catholic priest from Nairobi died at a local hotel after checking in with a woman believed to be his girlfriend.
On the morning of Saturday, July 8, the priest—later identified as Joseph Kariuki Wanjiku, 43—was pronounced dead at the hospital after being taken there by his lover.
According to authorities, the deceased, who is believed to work at St. Peter’s Parish in Ruai and who is also a farmer in the Mang’u area, checked into the aforementioned hotel with the woman who is believed to be his girlfriend and who also happens to be her coworker there.
“Then, this morning (Saturday) at around 0800hrs, the priest’s girlfriend notified the hotel management that the boyfriend was dizzy and getting unconscious so that they could rush him to the hospital. They then rushed him to Kenol hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival,” the police report indicated in part.
While remaining inside the vehicle he had used to travel to the hospital, the Catholic father was declared dead.
Police officers were called and responded, according to Murang’a county commander Kainga Mathiu, and discovered the body in the back seat of the car, half covered with hotel bedsheets.
He reportedly had white foam oozing out of his mouth and nose.
‘The police processed the scene and moved the body to Mater hospital mortuary in Nairobi under the escort of police officers pending autopsy and further police action,” said the county police boss
