Toposa Youth call for peace, ask government to end border dispute

Toposa community in Kapoeta East county of Eastern Equatoria state have today held a peaceful demonstration against the remarks made by Kenya Interior cabinet Secretary prof. Kithure Kindiki and Turkana County Governor Jeremiah Lomorkai during the recent visit to Nadapal checkpoint.

The community is demonstrating against the alleged encroachment by Kenya Government into South Sudan, Nakodai village that is 10km from Narus, Kapoeta East state.

South Sudan National minister of Environment and forestry Hon Josephine Napwon disagree with CS kindiki remarks during his recent visit to Nadapal. In her Facebook page She said the Kenyan Minister is brewing conflict between the two communities.

“The statements that came from the Kenyan Minister of Interior and the Turkana Governor is very regrettable, they are trying to incite violence between the two communities. They have already madded their intentions clear!

”I applaud the youth of Kapoeta East County for the peaceful protest for not taking the law into their hands. I call upon the State government and the national government to amicably resolve the boarder issue as soon as possible before it escalates into something that will hurt the friendship the two countries have been enjoying”. she concluded.

In one of Ateker elite’s forum, Edward Lojore Ekidor urged other youth to preach peace amongst the community.

“We should be discussing about peace among our communities. The language of war is not the best. The two governments are handling the border issue. Diplomacy is ongoing and let us give it a chance. Let us all think peace.”

On his part, Abelsilva Lopir a Toposa youth who is currently pursuing Masters in International studies (specialization in Peace and Conflict Studies) in Japan, said South Sudan has shown true brotherhood to Ateker brothers by allowing them to work without a job permit around Eastern Equatoria and its environs.

“There are many Turkana whom have enjoyed job market within our area which is good in my view, that is true definition of Ateker, am looking forward to see Topotha working one day too in Turkana for the purpose of peaceful skills exchange.”

Eastern Equatoria music artist hit maker Lokaale who goes by his stage name Born leader condemned CS kindiki remarks terming it as pure incitement that can destroy peace that the two communities have been recently enjoying.
