Despite concerns about his health following an injury sustained while playing for his German club over the weekend, Sadio Mane has been selected for Senegal’s World Cup team in Qatar.
Mane was taken off after 20 minutes, and an X-ray will be performed to determine the severity of the injury.
On November 21, Senegal will face the Netherlands to open their World Cup campaign. They will also compete in Group A against the hosts Qatar and Ecuador.
Following the game, Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann stated in a press conference: “He took a blow to his tibial plateau. It’s a painful spot. He’ll have to have an X-ray to see what’s happened.”
At a news conference in Dakar on Friday, Senegal coach Aliou Cisse announced his 26-man roster, which featured the team’s talisman.
Senegal’s record goal scorer and former Liverpool striker scored the game-winning penalty when his nation defeated Egypt to win the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year.
