Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un showcased their camaraderie on Wednesday by taking a drive in an Aurus limousine, with both leaders taking turns behind the wheel of the Russian-made vehicle.

This meticulously orchestrated public relations event highlighted the strong working relationship and mutual comfort between the two leaders, marking Putin’s first visit to Pyongyang in 24 years.

The drive followed the signing of a significant agreement between Russia and North Korea, which included a mutual defense pledge. Kim described the pact as an “alliance,” marking one of Russia’s most notable moves in the Asia-Pacific region in years.

Footage aired by Russian state television captured Putin eagerly taking the driver’s seat of the Aurus, a model of his official presidential car.

Kim, seen smiling in the passenger seat, later swapped places with Putin as they drove around a park.

Earlier on Wednesday, a Russian aide revealed that Putin had gifted Kim an Aurus limousine, making it Kim’s second Russian-made luxury vehicle.

North Korean state media reported in March that Kim first experienced the Aurus after receiving one from Putin in February.

However, South Korea’s Ministry of Unification assessed that this gift violated United Nations sanctions imposed due to North Korea’s nuclear weapons program.

Despite sanctions, Kim is known to possess a collection of luxury cars, including Maybach, Mercedes-Benz, and Rolls Royce models, which have been smuggled into North Korea.
