Anonymous Issues Warning to President Ruto Amid Rising Occupy Parliament Protests

The hacker group Anonymous has issued a stern warning to President William Ruto as the Occupy Parliament protests gain momentum in Kenya.

The group, known for its high-profile cyber-attacks and activism, has thrown its support behind the protesters who are demanding significant political reforms.

They have issued a strong and unequivocal warning to the President and the Parliament of Kenya about the controversial Finance Bill 2024.

Using their X account, which has over 5 million followers, Anonymous shared a one-minute and seventeen-second video.

In the video, they delivered a clear and forceful warning to Kenya’s leadership, promising severe repercussions if the concerns of Kenyan citizens are ignored.

With their distinctive voice, Anonymous made their message unmistakable, directly addressing the President by name.

They concluded with a ‘Swahili’ salute, emphasizing the seriousness of their warning and leaving no room for misunderstanding.

They statement began: “Greetings, Citizens of the world. This is a warning message to William Ruto, the Kenyan Government, and all members of parliament from Anonymous. It has come to our attention that there are discussions in parliament to pass the Finance Bill, which will unfairly tax the citizens of Kenya.”

“Kenyan citizens attempting peaceful demonstrations are being unfairly harassed, arrested, and shot at with live bullets by the police force under your command.”

They disclosed their awareness of legislators’ phone numbers being shared online, and further cautioned about possible cyber-attacks from hackers, including those based in Kenya.

“Soon, there will be an uprising of hackers, many of whom may reside in your home country. Your secrets may no longer be safe, and there is a chance that allw these secrets will be exposed to show how corrupt and unjust members of this parliament are, embezzling public funds for personal gain,” they said.

“On Thursday, the 20th of June, Kenyans will march and #OccupyParliament. We do not want you to amend the Finance Bill; we want you to reject it,” they warned.

“Listen to the cries of your citizens, or the people of the world will resist you every step of the way. Citizens of Kenya, do not worry, Tuko Pamoja! We are Anonymous, We are Legion, Expect us!”

Anonymous, a globally recognized group, is infamous for their impactful cyber attacks against organizations and governments they deem corrupt or unjust, with a long track record of high-profile operations.

Their achievements include breaching the websites of major corporations such as Sony and PayPal, as well as government bodies like the CIA and the Church of Scientology.

They were also pivotal during the Arab Spring protests, which led to the fall of several Arab dictators from Tunisia to Egypt.

Anonymous has made its mark in numerous high-stakes global conflicts, targeting leading nations and causing significant disruptions to their leaders and authoritarian regimes. However, this marks Anonymous’ first involvement in Kenyan political affairs.

Members of the group, referred to as “anons,” typically wear Guy Fawkes masks to preserve their anonymity. Additionally, some use voice changers or text-to-speech programs to further protect their identities.
