Former President Donald Trump is escalating a feud with comedian Trevor Noah, threatening a defamation lawsuit over a joke from last night’s Grammy Awards. The controversy centers on Noah’s monologue quip linking Trump to the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

During his hosting stint, Noah referenced Trump’s well-documented past interest in the United States purchasing Greenland. “That is a Grammy that every artist wants almost as much as Trump wants Greenland,” Noah said. “Which makes sense, I mean, because Epstein’s island is gone, he needs a new one to hang out on with Bill Clinton.”

The comment prompted an immediate and furious response from Trump on his Truth Social platform. In an overnight post, the former president called the joke “false and defamatory,” insisting he had never set foot on Epstein’s Caribbean island, “nor anywhere close.”

“Noah, a total loser, better get his facts straight, and get them straight fast,” Trump wrote. “It looks like I’ll be sending my lawyers to sue this poor, pathetic, talentless, dope of an M.C., and suing him for plenty$.”

The island in question, Little St. James in the U.S. Virgin Islands, was an alleged hub for the abuse of women and girls by Epstein and his associates. Both Trump and former President Bill Clinton have faced years of scrutiny over their past associations with Epstein, though neither has been charged with any crimes related to him. Both have repeatedly denied any wrongdoing.

Trump has previously stated that he had a falling out with Epstein “15 years ago” and famously claimed he banned the financier from his Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach. Epstein died by suicide in a Manhattan jail cell in 2019 while awaiting federal sex trafficking charges.

Representatives for Trevor Noah and Bill Clinton did not immediately respond to requests for comment on Trump’s legal threat.

The incident highlights the ongoing cultural and political tensions that continue to surround the Epstein case, now erupting from an awards show stage into a potential courtroom battle.
