In a significant triumph against banditry in the North Rift region, authorities have apprehended Lonyangapat Amerinyang’, a suspected notorious bandit from Akoret village in Tiaty.
Amerinyang’ had been under police radar for the past four years and is believed to be the orchestrator of the recent surge in banditry in the North Rift region.
Julius Kiragu, the Baringo Police Commandant, commended the arrest as a major achievement in the battle against banditry.
Kiragu disclosed that Amerinyang’ was found in possession of two firearms and 15 rounds of ammunition at the time of his arrest.
The arrest of Lonyangapat raises the count to three for the total number of bandits detained in Baringo county, with a total of three guns recovered.
Stephen Kutwa, the County Commissioner of Baringo, urged the public to collaborate with the police in combating banditry.
He emphasized the significance of public-provided information in the identification and apprehension of bandits.
Baringo County has faced a string of bandit attacks, with the most recent incident occurring on Wednesday, resulting in a severe injury to a Kenya Police reservist in the Ng’aratuko area of Baringo North.
