Nikama vindeo, detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) apprehended Benson Logiel Lokwang, a former member of Turkana’s County Executive Committee.
According to a statement from the commission, Lokwang was arrested on Tuesday and will be charged with forging diploma and degree certificates.
He was reportedly arrested at his Lodwar Town residence, but as detectives were escorting him to the Lodwar Police Station, they came across a rowdy group of goons who forcibly released him.
But his freedom didn’t last long. He was re-arrested by detectives, who then escorted him to Lodwar Central Police Station.
A mob broke into the police station where he was being held and yelled for his release, according to the EACC.
“After processing, he was produced before the Lodwar Law Courts where the Court ordered that he be detained at the Central police Station in Lodwar pending arraignment before the Lodwar Anti-Corruption Magistrate,” the statement from EACC reads.
“The mob that was earlier obstructing his arrest continued to cause commotion at the court premises seeking to rescue him,”
According to the statement, the ex-CEC allegedly used forged academic credentials to obtain the CEC position, prompting the EACC to launch an investigation.
He will be arraigned on Wednesday, November 30.
