The leadership of the county government in Turkana has issued a rallying call to all eligible persons residing in the County to turn up for the COVID-19 vaccination in large numbers during the one week period scheduled for the mass vaccination drive.
Led by DG Peter Lotethiro who is also the chair of the Turkana County COVID-19 task force, residents were informed that both the initial and booster jabs of the vaccine would be availed at the sub-county and ward level in selected health facilities as well as designated public places from 22nd to 29th July 2022.
“It is sad to see that our people have relaxed their guards against the deadly global pandemic despite its continued presence in Turkana and devastating outcome associated with mass fatalities in Kenya and beyond.” DG Lotethiro said.
DG Lotethiro revealed that only 18% of eligible persons had been reached by the previous vaccination campaign hence making Turkana one of the counties with the least covid 19 vaccination uptake.
Speaking during the launch of the exercise in the company of CECs Jane Ajele (Health), Alexander Losikiria (Tourism, Culture, Environment and Natural Resources) and Jeremiah Namuya (Public Service, Administration and Disaster Management), DG Lotethiro said that the County had sufficient vaccines for up to 150,000 eligible persons.
The exercise was launched at the Kanamkemer sub-county Hospital in Lodwar and attended by health directors, health partners and the general public.
