Johnson Sakaja beats Igathe to win Nairobi Governor seat

Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja is the county’s Governor elect, defeating his biggest opponent, Polycarp Igathe of Jubilee Party.

Sakaja, who was competing on a UDA party ticket, received 699,392 votes, while Igathe received 573,516 votes.

Multiple pollsters predicted Sakaja would win, giving him a substantial lead over Igathe.

The outgoing senator had a difficult campaign, which included defending allegations that he lacked an academic degree.

Jubilee candidate for Nairobi Governor Polycarp Igathe concedes defeat. On his twitter handle he says he respects the decision of the people;
