High Court bars IEBC from clearing Sonko for Mombasa governor race

High Court in Mombasa has issued orders to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) not to clear former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko to run for Mombasa governor’s seat.

Mombasa judge John motivo issued orders restraining IEBC from clearing sonko nomination papers to contest in mombasa gubernatorial seat.

Mativo issued temporary orders waiting hearing and resolution  of the application before the court.

Haki Yetu , Kituo cha Sheria and Transparency International are the petitioners seeking to have Sonko disqualified from vying arguing that he was removed from office for violating the Constitution during his term as Nairobi Governor.

Justice mativo ruled upon going through the notice of motion dated , may 16 filed under the certificate of urgency.

“I hereby order the third respondents not to clear the first respondent name to vie for elective post pending the hearing and determination of the application,” Mativo ruled.

The matter will be mentioned on may 24.
