43-year-old Nsikonenne Ssaalongo Habib Ssezzigu, a resident of Bugereka village in Mukono district, Uganda, married seven wives in a landmark ceremony held in his community over the weekend.
Following the exchange of vows, Nsikonnene and his seven wives staged a large procession through the towns of Kalagi, Kasana, and Nakifuma, which was followed by boda boda bicycles, before making their way to their home at 6 o’clock in the evening.
As the couples moved in a convoy while being applauded by onlookers who had gathered along the route to observe the ritual, a concert marked the beginning of the wedding ceremony.
According to locals who claim that Nsikonnene’s business brings in a lot of money, his wedding caravan reportedly included over 40 cars and 30 motorcycles.
To area residents, Nsikonnene has become somewhat of a cult hero after putting his remote village on the map.
“This man with rare qualities (Nsikonnene) settled in this village about four years ago. He came and bought land here and introduced himself to me as a traditional healer. We allowed him to practice his trade,” Emmanuel Owere, the Namasengere Village chairperson, is quoted as saying by The Monitor.
“When he settled here, little did we know that he would bring us fame. Our village name is trending everywhere.”
He thanked his wives for being faithful to him during his address at the reception, saying,
“My wives harbour no jealousy amongst themselves. I introduced them separately and decided to wed them all at once to make one big happy family. I am still a young man and in the near future, God willing, I cannot say this is the end of it.”
Now, the village chair wants to give Nsikonnene’s name to a nearby road.
“He is a rare man because given his status in society, he has been mingling with everyone. He is a hard worker and locals should emulate him,” said Owere.
