Following his election as Kenya’s fifth president, William Ruto has received congratulations from the Russian government.
According to a statement sent by the Russian Embassy in Kenya on Thursday,
“developing comprehensive and mutually beneficial cooperation with Kenya.”
“We are confident that the friendly relations between our two countries and peoples will be reinvigorated and further strengthened,” reads the statement.
With 7,176,141 votes, or 50.49 percent of the total votes cast, William Ruto was declared the winner of the presidential election by IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati.
With 6,942,930 votes, Raila Odinga of the Azimio coalition finished in second place but has since contested the results.
Russia is the latest foreign country to comment on the results of Kenya’s recent elections.
