Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck, one of Hollywood’s most iconic couples, have decided to part ways after two years of marriage. The pair, who rekindled their relationship almost 20 years after their first engagement ended, were married in a Las Vegas ceremony in July 2022.

According to court documents, Lopez filed for divorce on Tuesday, exactly two years after their more elaborate wedding celebration, which took place a month after their Vegas nuptials.

Entertainment news outlet TMZ reports that the couple has no prenuptial agreement, and Lopez listed April 26 as the date of their separation.

Lopez, 55, and Affleck, 52, originally met while filming the romantic comedy “Gigli” around 2001. Their on-screen chemistry quickly turned into a real-life romance, and they announced their engagement in 2002.

The couple, affectionately dubbed “Bennifer” by the media, became a Hollywood power couple. Affleck even appeared in Lopez’s music video for her hit single, “Jenny From The Block,” further cementing their status in pop culture.

However, their highly publicized relationship faced challenges. Just before their planned wedding in 2003, they postponed the ceremony due to overwhelming media attention. The couple officially called off their engagement and separated in early 2004.

In the years following their split, both Lopez and Affleck married other partners and started families. Lopez married singer Marc Anthony, with whom she shares twins, while Affleck married actress Jennifer Garner, with whom he has three children.

Speculation about a possible reunion began in 2021 when the two were seen together, both having ended their previous relationships. Later that year, they confirmed that “Bennifer” was back, much to the delight of fans.

Lopez has previously described their initial breakup as “the biggest heartbreak” of her life, revealing in a November 2022 interview with Apple Music that she felt like she “was going to die” at the time. Despite the heartbreak, she believed their story had a happy ending when they reunited and married.

The couple had two weddings in 2022, first in Las Vegas, where they stood in line for their marriage license alongside other couples at A Little White Wedding Chapel.

Lopez described the night as the best of their lives, with a Bluetooth speaker providing the soundtrack for their walk down the aisle.

A month later, they held a more lavish celebration at Affleck’s Georgia estate, surrounded by friends and family. Lopez shared her joy on social media, writing, “Love is beautiful. Love is kind. And it turns out love is patient. Twenty years patient.”

Despite this fairytale reunion, reports of a split began circulating earlier in 2024. In May, Lopez addressed the rumors during a press conference in Mexico for her Netflix film “Atlas,” dismissing the speculation with a confident, “You know better than that.”

As of now, representatives for both Lopez and Affleck have not commented on the divorce. Lopez, known for her music hits like “Love Don’t Cost A Thing” and films such as “Hustlers,” continues to be a force in the entertainment industry.

Affleck, an acclaimed actor, producer, and writer, is recognized for his work in Oscar-winning films like “Argo” and “Good Will Hunting.”

The end of their marriage marks another chapter in the complex and storied relationship of one of Hollywood’s most famous couples.
