President Museveni’s Daughter Patience Rwabwogo Becomes Uganda’s First Female Bishop

In a landmark ceremony that marks a significant shift in the religious landscape of Uganda, Patience Rwabwogo the daughter of President Yoweri Museveni and First Lady Janet Museveni was officially consecrated as a bishop.

The event, held over the weekend, broke traditional barriers as Pastor Patience Kokundeka Museveni Rwabwogo became the first woman to be ordained to the episcopate in the country.

The consecration of Mrs. Rwabwogo, who is the third child of the presidential couple, took place at Covenant Hill in Maya, roughly 27 kilometers southwest of the capital, Kampala.

This significant elevation in her ecclesiastical career comes exactly two decades after she planted the ministry, which began as a modest house fellowship. The Covenant Nations Church has since grown into a substantial movement, culminating in this historic milestone.

The solemn ceremony was presided over by Bishop Dr. LaDonna Osborn, who acted as the Chief Consecrator. Bishop Osborn formally presented the newly consecrated Bishop Patience with her certificate and a Bible, symbolizing her new authority and responsibility.

She was supported by Archbishop Moses Odongo and Bishop Joshua Lwere, who served as co-consecrators during the proceedings.

The event drew a distinguished gathering of local and international dignitaries, including senior Christian leaders, government officials, and family members. Among the notable attendees were Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye and his wife, Pastor Folu Adeboye, from the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG).

Their presence underscored the global recognition of Bishop Patience’s spiritual journey and the significance of her new role.

President Museveni, who was present at the ceremony, expressed his pride and joy, congratulating his daughter on her achievement. He emphasized the importance of the day, not only for their family but also for the broader historical trajectory of Christianity in Uganda.

In a heartfelt moment, the President took time to offer gratitude for the recent recovery of the First Lady, commending the medical teams who attended to her and thanking their children Muhoozi, Natasha, Patience, and Diana for their unwavering support during a challenging period.

“First of all, I thank God for the recovery of Maama. Apart from thanking God, I want to salute and thank the medical staff who have been involved in treating her, and also our children Muhoozi, Natasha, Patience and Diana, who have been together with the medical staff taking care of her,” President Museveni said.

Speaking at the event, First Lady Janet Museveni described the consecration as an extraordinarily special day, not only for the first family but for the entire Body of Christ across the nation.

“Today, we celebrate the consecration of our daughter, Patience, to the office of a Bishop. We are overwhelmed with joy and thanksgiving at the great honour You have bestowed over us in choosing one of our children to serve You in this capacity,” she said.

Bishop Patience’s consecration is being hailed as a progressive step for the church in Uganda, inspiring a new generation of female leaders in a traditionally male-dominated sphere.
