South Sudanese Model Adut Akech Bior Wins Model of the Year at 2019 British Fashion Awards. The 19 years old Star model was named ‘Model of the Year’ at the British Fashion Awards in London, on Monday night.
Adut Akech Bior grew up in Kenya’s Kakuma refugee camp.
On her speech, Akech talked about the need for a better representation of women in the fashion industry.
“It is important for all of us to remember that someone like me winning this award is a rarity,” she said.
“This is for the young women and men who found representation and validation in my work. I want them to never be afraid of dreaming big like I once did.”
“To them, I say this: Whatever it is you want to do, whether it’s modelling or acting or medicine, you should never doubt yourself.”
“Don’t let the world convince you that it is not possible.”
In her Instagram page Adut wrote:
”2019 “MODEL OF THE YEAR” Meet the south Sudanese refugee who comes from nothing, who become your 2019 “Model of The Year” last night at the BFA , I FUCKING DID IT!!! 🏆🏆🏆.”
The ceremony which took place at the Royal Albert Hall, was graced by artists, models and designers. Rihanna was among those who won, she was awarded with ‘the Urban Luxe award.’
