A planned Saturday church wedding in Kapsoiyo, Bomet County, faced a sudden cancellation when the prospective bride, appealing to the planning committee, requested additional time to finalize her decision.
The Reverend designated to officiate the ceremony submitted a cancellation letter to the wedding planning committee, headed by Pastor Clement Chalulot of Kapsoiyo Africa Gospel Church (AGC).
The cancellation was attributed to a disagreement between the families involved. Pastor Chalulot noted that, despite the groom’s family fulfilling customary obligations, such as paying dowry with three cows and meeting other requirements, the event was called off.
“Yesterday, as by the agreement, she refused to give us her documents like ID and other requirements. She was also not willing to cooperate with us, even though her man to be was assuring us that all was well,” stated the Pastor.
“We are lucky we spent only Ksh.50,000 out of our total budget of Ksh.256,000 for the event.”
Pastor Chalulot simultaneously mentioned that a team of representatives had been sent earlier to mend relations between the two families.
However, the woman remained firm and declined to participate in the conversation. In the aftermath of the unsuccessful occasion, numerous villagers, who had gathered in anticipation of the significant event, were provided with free mursik and other perishable food items originally intended for the celebration, as steps were taken to initiate the dowry retrieval process.
