Deputy Governor Peter Lotethiro today officially rolled out a road safety campaign Programme aimed at reducing accidents on roads in Turkana County.
The week long activity has been organised by the County’s ministry of Infrastructure and Public Works in partnership with the National Transport and Safety Authority(NTSA).
Speaking today at Moi gardens ,Lodwar during the rolling out event, DG Lotethiro said that the Public awareness campaign will go along way in reducing cases of accidents in the County, whose monthly record he said was alarming.
With the ongoing construction of A1 roads, DG Lotethiro warned drivers to be extra careful and observe speed limits to avoid causing unnecessary accidents that he said could be prevented through following road safety rules as established by NTSA. He asked the infrastructure ministry to budget and do regular trainings to drivers on road safety measures.
He thanked the safety Authority for partnering with the County government to organize the event and urged them to establish an office in Lodwar to help curb cases of accidents.
Chief officer Roads and Public Works John Namoit revealed that the county government on its mission to improve infrastructure had tarmacked more than 10 kilometers of roads in lodwar town within last financial year. He further urged bodaboda motorcyclist to form an association and put trackers on there bikes, to curb thieves.

Other speakers were Lodwar Township MCA …Lowoko,Traffic commandant Japheth … and Lodwar drivers association Chairperson Maxwell ikamar ,among others.
